Backpacking Europe '09 - Florence!

Candy in a can!

So I used to drink a lot of soda. A LOT. I used to crave soda when I was thirsty. I think I averaged about 4 sodas a day at CBU which has probably shortened my life by an amount I don't want to imagine. I know...Horrible. But that was then and it was about this point in Europe when I had started getting insane headaches from caffeine withdraws. I needed my Coke fix haha. Anyways we rode a train to Florence and ended up in a random town where we walked FOREVER and saw NOTHING haha. I started to get a dirty feeling that a Milan trip was going to happen again. Luckily a store owner helped us out and directed us to Santa Maria Novela which was amazing!

Backpacking Europe '09 - Milan

We left Switzerland really late and got into Milan, Italy even later. Soon as we got to Milan we wanted to leave. Not what we expected at all. We walked around for a few hours at around 2 in the morning looking for this little hostel that I swear did not exist. People pointed us to hostels but they were all closed for the night. We tried to just leave Milan all together, unfortunately all the trains had stopped moving for the night so we were stuck. We eventually found some stray Americans who helped us find a hostel.

Backpacking Europe '09 - Switzerland!

Growing up as a missionary kid allowed me to make friends with people who ended up living in various parts of the world. We left Munich for Geneva, Switzerland with an address of an old friend of mine from my Zambia days. We arrived in Geneva really late and almost missed the last bus into the city, which we had to run to catch haha.. We met up and he showed us around Geneva the next morning which was really awesome. I hadn't seen him in 6 years! I thought running through a field of yellow flowers(shown below)in the countryside would be fun. It was, but Nathan and I had horrible runny noses and teary eyes after and a lot of pollen got in my LCD screen.. its still there now!!.. We headed out for Interlaken the morning after and met up with a friend of mine from my Kenya days! She showed us around Interlaken which was just incredible.

Backpacking Europe '09 - Munich

This is going back to the beginning. Welcome to Munich, Germany!. Long flight from LAX and ready. I needed to meet up with the others because we had all bought different flights into the city. Evidently my luck seemed to be following me around like a black cloud because the hotel inside the airport where we were supposed to meet did not exist. Hotel Theresienhof was only ten minutes away, but I wondered if we would all find each other since none of us had a way of communicating with each other. John had landed four hours before in Munich and Nathan had landed 4 hours before in Frankfurt which is about FOUR hours away hahah.. I rode the bus and on arrival out of the hotel popped John. We walked around town and got some photos. Later that night Nathan had SOMEHOW made it to our location and busted into our room. Miraculous.

Germany is a beautiful place to visit. I definitely recommend it if you are doing any traveling.
